However, dealing with ounces can be confusing because there are several types of this unit. An ounce can be a measure of the weight of an object and can also be used to know the volume of a fluid. It is understood that this article will focus on the ounce as a unit for measuring the amount of fluid. Now that means fluid ounces. Before we get into conversions, let’s start understanding what ounces and liters actually are.

The liter is a unit of volume that can be used in the International System of Measurements (SI units). A metric unit of volume, equal to 1 cubic decimeter, 1000 cubic centimeters, or 0.001 cubic meters. A cubic decimeter occupies a volume of 10 cm × 10 cm × 10 cm, so equals 1/1000 of a cubic meter.

In most countries of the world, the liter is used as a unit for measuring liquid volume and labeling containers containing that liquid. It is also used for certain non-liquid volume measurements, such as the size of car trunks, computer cases, microwave ovens, refrigerators, and recycling bins, as well as fuel volume and price expressions.

An ounce marked with the “OZ” symbol is a non-metric unit of volume or mass used in various systems and has various definitions. There are two main types of fluid ounces. Imperial ounces and US customary ounces. An Imperial fluid ounce contains approximately 1/20 of an Imperial pint, 1/160 of an Imperial gallon, or 28.4 milliliters, while a US fluid ounce or US customary ounce contains 1/16 of a US fluid ounce, 1/128 of a fluid ounce. A US gallon is approximately 29.6 milliliters.
