How Many Miles Is 30 Km – A new online map resource lets you figure out your driving range, but you don’t need a pencil, ruler and paper map.AP
Remember the old song “500 Miles Away From Home”? Take it as a challenge rather than a lament, and you might come up with some great ideas for a trip.
How Many Miles Is 30 Km
You can do this the old fashioned way by using a mile scale and a ruler to calculate distances on a paper map. But now there are free online map radius tools that will show you at a glance which destinations are within a given distance.
How Long Does It Take To Run 4 Miles? (explained In Detail)
Go to the website and scroll down to the “Options” form. In the Location radius by location name field, enter the city you are starting with.
Skip Latitude and Longitude and go to Radial Distance. The form here will automatically set the circuit distance to 1,000 kilometers, but you can reset this by entering the number of miles you want to drive in the “Miles” field right next to the kilometers field.
Scroll up to see the green circle on the map. To get a more detailed view of cities in your driving area, zoom in by holding the minus sign on the left and moving it up a few notches.
Depending on traffic and highway speeds, most people can easily cover 500 miles in a day’s driving, so starting with that distance can inspire some interesting choices. If you’re taking a week off, driving to your destination on the first and last day is often a viable option to save on airfare.

Starting with New York as a circle point on the FreeMapTools.com website, you’ll immediately see that trips to Montreal, Toronto, Cleveland, and Virginia Beach, Virginia are within 500 miles.
Targets at the outermost edge of the circle may be further than your maximum distance when calculating actual driving routes. The radius measurement tool measures distance as the crow flies regardless of highways or terrain, so it’s a good idea to check distances using odometers on Mapquest or GoogleMaps.
Safely within 500 miles of New York, the actual distance to Toronto is 475 miles; to Cleveland, 463 miles; to Montreal, 376 miles; and 362 miles from Virginia Beach, Virginia. Greenville, N.C., appears near the edge of the 500-mile circle, and the GoogleMaps mileage calculator says the driving distance is just over 500 miles on the 522.
Check out some other getaways for great vacation ideas within 500 miles: Myrtle Beach, S.C., Baltimore; from Denver to Mount Rushmore; from Cleveland to Mammoth Cave, Kentucky; from Minneapolis to Kansas City; Tucson to Los Angeles; Atlanta to Orlando; Boise, Idaho to Portland, Ore. Unless; Helena, Mont., to Salt Lake City.
The Distance Between Degrees Of Latitude And Longitude
If you’re willing to drive seven to 10 hours, the cost savings of a 500-mile trip over a flight is significant. It’s not that much for one person, but a family of four can spend over $1,000 to travel anywhere. Air travel involves more than just the cost of the ticket; Transport, food and ancillary services to and from the airport and car hire upon landing.
In contrast, with gas around $2 a gallon, it will cost you less than $100 to drive 1,000 miles in a 25 mpg car. Even after counting tolls, food and a night in a motel along the way, if you can’t do the trip in one day, it will cost less than the plane ticket. If you’re feeling ambitious, leave before dawn and you’ll easily reach your destination 400 miles away by lunchtime.
Or if you’re willing to leave at dawn and arrive by dinnertime, increase your range to 800 miles and greatly expand your vacation options. My husband and I managed the 840 mile trip from New York to Mammoth Cave in one day with two kids (and no electronic devices to keep them busy), while visiting the national park and surrounding attractions at an affordable price, and had an unforgettable vacation. .
While using a map circuit can expand your list of potential vacation spots, the appeal is partly psychological. Many people do not know how to estimate distances and if they know how far something is, it can be achievable.

Besides, measuring distances is a national pastime. Of course, there are thousands of highway odometer markers that indicate distances to other cities, but there are also many examples of whimsical or frustrating odometer markers.
US soldiers stationed overseas have posted handmade signposts listing their favorite places and hometowns to visit, sometimes thousands of miles away. A sign in downtown Anchorage shows the distance between Tokyo and Paris. Many small towns in Maine are named after major cities around the world, so local squares have famous signposts just a few miles down the road with the names of places like China, Norway, Mexico and Paris.
And when you reach the summit of Maine’s Mount Katahdin at the northern end of the Appalachian Trail, you’ll be faced with a sign telling you that Springer Mountain, Georgia, at the trail’s southern end, is only 2,000 miles away. Our pace charts show how long a given pace can last over seven common race distances: 5km, 8km, 5 miles, 10km, 10 miles, half marathon and marathon. Charts like this are a great way to figure out what average speed you’ll need for your target time.
For example, if you’re aiming for under 50 minutes for a 10-mile run, you’ll easily find that you’ll need to run 3:06 per mile or faster, according to the chart below. Once you know this pace, you can adjust your training to reach your goal. (Find more speed maps based on minutes per mile or minutes per kilometer.)
