Upper Crust: Costco
Yes, you read that right – with more than 700 locations and food courts, Costco is considered the 14th largest pizza chain in the United States. Technically, it’s bigger than a California pizza kitchen, and almost as big as CiCi’s.
It’s an impressive feat for a retailer that sells coffins, cars, safari packages and gallon jars of peanut butter all under one roof. With that in mind, we decided to check out the nearest Costco to see how good the pizza was – is it really worth the trip?
Costco is truly the land of coffee, and its food court reflects that. While its faded signage and 80s food photography aren’t much to look at, it’s probably one of the best lunch deals around.

The cheese is pretty standard – melted, melted, and slightly charred on top, giving it a familiar hue. The tomato sauce has a bit of sweetness, but not to the point of being weird. Plus, however, there was more cheese than tomato in this slice – lactose intolerant beware.
It tastes very close to Pizza Hut’s cheese pizza, which was a welcome surprise considering Pizza Hut’s pizza won our cheese taste test of the three takeout chains. It’s salty, greasy, and slightly chewy — but three qualities that make cheap pizza taste so good.
$1.99 per slice (basically two regular slices this size) is an amazing deal for a family of hungry Costco shoppers. Then again, if you walk in and buy food, you don’t even need to be a member to buy food.
