But wait, there’s more. In addition to cramming a larger engine, specialist BMW Autoservice Procar also removed the standard gearbox. Instead of the OEM six-speed manual transmission or the dreaded SMG automatic manual transmission, the M3 E46 shown here has a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission of unknown origin but likely borrowed from the car’s successor, the M3 E92.
The heavily modified sports coupé was put to the test on an unrestricted stretch of motorway in incredible acceleration tests up to 300 km/h. Yet the guys at Option Auto managed to get one for their own testing purposes and recorded the impact while driving at the car’s top speed, which is limited to 305 km/h (189 mph).
Needless to say, they weren’t disappointed, but there are a few things to note. The car seems to accelerate absolutely relentlessly to around 240 km/h (149 mph) and only then begins to noticeably slow down.
