250 Km In Miles – Let’s say you can buy a new 2016 Nissan Leaf that is rated not at 107 miles but at 155 miles. That would be a much more desirable car, wouldn’t it?
The bottom line is that both cars are identical. What differs is the rating process used to calculate the range of electric cars.

At a press conference yesterday at the Frankfurt Motor Show for the GripZ concept – a very stylish little crossover about the size of the current Nissan Juke – Nissan’s European arm said the 2016 Leaf will soon be launched with an improved range.

As in North America, the Leaf SV and SL models will carry a 30-kilowatt-hour battery that increases range by 20 percent.
Although the US Environmental Protection Agency puts the model’s range at 107 miles combined, its European range is estimated at 250 kilometers or 155 miles.
As with petrol and diesel cars, the performance ratings shown for electric cars depend on how they are tested. And the testing process used by the New European Driving Cycle is shorter and slower than the EPA process.
The EPA city test is 31 minutes, for example, while the European “City” test is 13 minutes.

The NEDC “Extra urban” test lasts 6 minutes, 40 seconds. the equivalent EPA highway test is 12 minutes, 45 seconds.
Reflecting the different traffic conditions between centuries-old European cities and large post-war US suburbs, speeds also differ.
During the 13-minute NEDC city test, top speed reached just 30 mph, and that pace was maintained for just 12 seconds.
The rest of the test involved slow acceleration and deceleration, while more than 2 minutes were spent stationary.

By comparison, the EPA’s city test sometimes gets close to 60 mph, while the rest is spent accelerating up to 30 mph, then back to a dead stop—and repetitive—for real stop-start driving that’s more performance-challenging.
This is similar to the highway test — not only are the EPA tests longer, but the car spends more time at higher speeds.
The basic highway test cycle still tops out at an unrealistic 60mph and the average is just 48mph, so not representative of real driving today.
The EPA also takes into account additional variables, such as “High Speed”, “Air Conditioning” and “Cold Temperature” tests, to adjust the city and highway performance posted on each new car window sticker to ensure they are relevant to real-world use.

All of this adds up to a significant difference between US range ratings. for electric cars and those found in similar cars in Europe.
Evaluation of the combined range of the U.S. it is usually considered accurate for electric cars operating in temperate climates where cabin heating is not required.
When full cabin heating is required, the range can be significantly reduced, sometimes by as much as 30 percent. Heating only the seats and steering wheel has less effect on range.
However, European car buyers are increasingly unhappy with the growing discrepancy between fuel economy ratings and their real-world results. Reports indicate that these differences are increasing, which has led to recommendations for changes to the testing regime.

There are also at least some proposals to standardize performance testing across major markets, which would provide consistent ratings for the same car in Europe and North America.
They may not have long to wait, though: The second-generation Nissan Leaf, expected as a 2017 or 2018 model year, will likely have at least one variant that delivers 150 to 200 miles of range.

DUBAI, April 14 () – Iran’s move to enrich uranium to 60 percent purity is a response to sabotage at its main nuclear facility, President Hassan Rouhani said on Wednesday, adding that the Islamic Republic does not intend to build nuclear weapons.
