Many sites on the Internet can automatically convert miles to kilometers. However, learning how to do it yourself is a good idea if you never have an internet connection. The most important thing to remember is that there are 1.6 kilometers in a mile. This means you can multiply your number of miles by 1.6 to get kilometers.

A mile is an imperial unit of measurement commonly used in the United States to determine the distance between two places. A kilometer is used to measure the same thing, but it is a metric unit of length. It’s a pretty easy math equation to convert kilometers to miles or vice versa.

To convert kilometers to miles, multiply the number of kilometers by 0.621371. To get an approximation, you can shorten the number to 0.62. To convert kilometers to nautical miles, multiply the number of kilometers by 0.5399568035. If you want to know how to estimate conversion to make it easier, keep reading!. Ideally, several teams of five bikes ride from different origins, leave on Saturday morning and converge on a single point on arrival, which often ends with breakfast on Easter morning. It’s a very cool idea. The Dart is another team ride in the form of a 13.5 hour 200km RUSA event. Tidewater Rando hosted its inaugural Dart on April 4th. Originally we had two teams going separate routes and meeting at a common end point. Unfortunately, personal schedules changed and I only made a team of five.
Rain was forecast in the morning. Fortunately, it was relatively warm, with an expected high of 62 degrees. Rain is tolerable at those temperatures. Winds were NW 16 mph with gusts over 20 mph. As you can see on the map below, the NNW wind will definitely make the first 80 miles more difficult. We started our journey at the Burger King in Windsor, VA

And felt a little rain here and there. But the rain stayed away and the day continued to improve. We had a good laugh when we found out that one of our riders had two good riding shoes. Far from home, he had two options: go home or suffer. He chose to persevere by walking 128 miles in a cycling shoe and a rubber sandal. It’s hard!
Two things made this ride different from other races for me: first, because the race is a 13.5 hour event, the team had to manage their pace and make longer stops than usual to avoid overtaking the program. The rules require us to cover at least 25 km
In the last two hours. So we couldn’t leave our final checkpoint at the 109 mile marker until 6:30pm. No sweat! There are worse places than Smithfield Ice Cream to be forced to stay. Second, dart riders travel together as a team. We had a few breakups due to interspersed “nature breaks” or when we lay down to stretch our legs. Otherwise, we were together for most of the trip. It was a nice change of pace
The trip was relatively uneventful. The Isle of Wight and Surry counties both have their fair share of loose dogs. They provided a little excitement…but only a little. I don’t even bother trying to beat them. Most dogs run alongside me to escort me away from their property. We had lunch at McDonald’s in Waverly. There was no checkpoint so we had to manage our time wisely. It was after 12:00 and still 21 miles to the next checkpoint town, which has no restaurants. Neither of us wanted to drive that far, a total of 79 miles, without lunch. So Mickey-D’s was the best choice for fuel. It was good to get out of the wind a bit too. The next check was at Claremont. There is very little there. The store is low on stock. I bought a sandwich… an ice cream sandwich… and then I rested for a while. Our way out of Claremont was unknown. I had no idea there was a 12% grade in the area! Fortunately, the worst of them was only 1/4 mile long, followed by another 1/2 mile of less grades. As mentioned above, our final check was at Smithfield. I think I was there for about 45 minutes. I had a tuna salad sub. Good things! The sun was setting; so we donned our reflective vests and turned on our light as we set off for the final 15 mile stretch.
Low Earth Orbit
We ended our trip at Burger King without much fuss. I had a “recovery shake” and turned in my paperwork. Check out my computers too. I had done some calibrations during the 200km ACP ride two weeks ago. This trip was when I was able to see the results. Walk with GPS
Measures the route at 127.6 miles. I did about 1/4 mile of “bonus riding”. Therefore, I would say that the measurement is extremely close, especially at such a distance. Wired computer
Different. I will apply another wireless patch to reduce this error. I think the distance shown on the smartphone reflects the poor accuracy inherent in most smartphone GPS receivers. I’m not mad about it, but it’s good to know about the difference. By the way, my Cue Sheet app stopped working last week. I want to know why this happened. Meanwhile, I chose to try the navigation function of RwGPS. I was VERY pleased with it. I think I’ll write a separate entry to review the app. It’s so good! That will have to wait when I pack for a bike camping weekend. We will blog about the navigation app and the camping trip later. Until then…

Remember the old song “500 Miles Away From Home”? Think of it as a challenge instead of a complaint and you might come up with some great travel ideas.
You can do this the old fashioned way by calculating distances on a paper map using a mile scale and ruler. But now there are free online map radius tools that show you at a glance which destinations are within a certain distance.
Go to the website and scroll down to the “Options” form. Enter the city starting at “Post radius by post name”.
