“Good” running measurements vary from runner to runner, says New Balance runner and online running coach Johnny Mellor. He says: “There are also many other factors that play a role, including fatigue, terrain, and weather.” “The ideal running pace for a new runner is very different from the normal pace for an experienced runner. The beauty of running is that we are all at different stages of the journey and working towards individual goals. “

For beginner runners, the average time to complete a 5K is about 30-45 minutes, Mellor says — “which can be a combination of running and walking as you build your fitness.”
For more experienced runners, who run several times a week, “the average finish time will be between 20-25 minutes with serious runners posting times closer to 17 minutes and less,” he adds.
“The current men’s world record for 5km stands at 12:49 an incredible hour set by Preho Aregawi of Ethiopia in 2021 with Ieggayehu Tay (of Ethiopia) setting the fastest women’s time of 14:19 in the same event. “
