Do you know that there are two types of measuring cups? One for dry ingredients like sugar and flour and the other for liquids like oil, water or milk.

Dry measuring cups have to be leveled with a butter knife. Liquid measuring cups have a small spout for the liquid to flow out, so you can’t overfill. You’ll find the measurement along the line on the side of the cup, which will measure up to the top of the measuring cup.

The dry ingredients will depend on how you measure. Many times for items like brown sugar, you will find the sugar packed tightly into the measuring cup. Regular sugar, rice, oats, you just add it until your measuring cup is full or runs out of container.

For flour, you’ll take a small spoon and scoop out the flour into the correct measuring cup. Be sure not to stuff it tightly into the cup.

If you do this, you’ll have too much flour and it can make your mixture too dry and your recipe won’t turn out right.

To measure your liquid ingredients, take your measuring cup and place it on a flat surface. Slowly pour your fluid while bending down to eye level to see where your fluid is measuring. Eye level is important to make sure you’re measuring at the right level.
